This virus is killing them, yet perseverance
Is their mantra, their humanity a selfless act
Operating without needed equipment as their battle rages,
Even though artillery shelling goes on around them
They aid those unable to help themselves.

Overcrowded refugee camps and hospitals
A breeding ground for this virus without masks or
Social distancing, a luxury most of us have,
Yet many choose to ignore.

Family meetings now out of the question
For those health workers on the front line,
Sacrifices many selfish westerners
Can not, would not, will not make in their pathetic
Voice for freedom of choice, choices many who can not make,
Are forced to make, batteling in their field of humanity
Most of us have not the grit or desire for.

The world's true heroes, the world's true humanitarians.

To Sylvia Wohlfarth. A true humanitarian! J.
